Come prepared!

Please come prepared and install the necessary tools upfront.

Laptop

  • You will need your own laptop to do the hands-on labs.
  • It's unfortunately not possible to do all exercises on a Mac as Visual Studio is obligatory.

Visual Studio 2015 Update 3

  • Community Edition (free) or higher
  • Include the Visual Studio Emulator for Android
  • Include Xamarin

Xamarin (if not already installed with Visual Studio)

  1. Open Visual Studio
  2. Go to Tools > Extensions and Updates...
  3. Search for Xamarin for Visual Studio
  4. install

Android Emulator

  1. Install the emulator (if not already installed with Visual Studio): Download
  2. Start the Visual Studio Emulator for Android
  3. Download an Emulator with API Level 23 (e.g. 5.1" Marshmallow (6.0.0) XXHDPI Phone API Level 23, similar to Samsung Galaxy S6)

Create your Team Service account

  1. Go to the offical Visual Studio Team Service page and create an account for free.
  2. Login with your existing microsoft account or create a new one.

Create an Azure Subscription

  1. Go to www.azure.com
  2. Click on Start free
  3. Sign up

Sign up for a free trial of Xamarin Test Cloud

  1. Open Xamarin Website
  2. Choose Products > Xamarin Test Cloud
  3. Click on Start your free trial
  4. Register

Register to HockeyApp

  1. Go to the HockeyApp page
  2. Sign up for free (Button top right)
  3. Enter your data
  4. Select the I'm a developer checkbox
  5. Click on the Register button to sign up.
